HOMEMADE CHICKEN GYROS WITH TZATZIKI SAUCE

HOMEMADE CHICKEN GYROS – this is an easy way to make gyros and yogurt sauce at home. Chicken was marinated in chosen seasoning. So good!

Equipment

  • griller

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken tenders
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice 2 lemons
  • 1 teaspoon zest about 2 lemons
  • 2 tablespoon garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 teaspoons dried Oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • Kosher salt ,pepper to taste

TZATZIKI SAUCE INGREDIENTS

  • 3/4 cup Greek Yogurt
  • 1/2 cup Cucumber, shredded and remove excess oil
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Dill, chopped
  • 1 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

GARNISHING:

  • 1 Romaine Lettuce
  • 1 cup Cherry Tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup Red Onion
  • 1 piece cucumber

Instructions

CHICKEN MARINADE

  • In a small bowl, add in olive oil, paprika, dried Oregano, dried Basil, garlic, lemon juice and zest. Mix and in salt if you think you needed it.
  • Place chicken tenders in 1 gallon zip loc and pour in the marinade.
  • Let chicken rest in the fridge for 4 hours and grill until internal temperature is at 165. About 5 minutes each side.

HOW TO MAKE THE YOGURT SAUCE

  • Peel cucumber and shred using a shredder. You can use processor too for shredding.
  • Drain excess fluid of the cucumber by squeezing out the fluid.
  • Place in the medium size bowl and add in the Greek Yogurt, dill, zest and garlic. Add the lemon juice intermittently. Start with 2 teaspoons  and add more according to the level of sourness you desire.
    Season with salt and pepper.

ASSEMBLE THE GYROS

  • Lay the flat bread in a flat surface and spread  about 2 tablespoons Tzatziki sauce.
  • Spread about 2 tablespoons of Tzatziki sauce and top with cucumber, chicken, tomato and lettuce
  • Eat with gusto.
