Quick, easy,chewy  delicious , decadent Food for the Gods. I am not sure why this Filipino dessert is called Food for the Gods, but one thing for sure, this Filipino dessert is heavenly. You have to control yourself to stop going for seconds or thirds. This right there is a bane of your diet, that is why in the Philippines, we only make it mostly during Christmas time to give away. But I do not usually follow rules, so I made it just because.

Food for the God is one of my favorite Filipino goodies. And if you are not a fan of dates you can now actually eat one because the dates will be coated with those chewy-ness and sweetness that you keep on coming back for more.

Also, since this goody is too easy to make, you don't have to wait for Christmas time. Make this for your friends birthday. Wrap it with a colorful and you will surely make somebody smile. You can bring these Food for the Gods in any potluck party you plan.

FOOD FOR THE GODS RECIPE VARIATIONS:

So I made this Food for the Gods twice, using different variation and ingredients.

  1. I used 1 cup of Craisins or Raisins since Dates is very expensive in the Philippines.
  2. I used 1 cup chopped cashews
  3. 1 1/2 cup All purpose flour

And the recipe turned out really good too.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2  cup butter, melted
  • 1  and 1/2  cups dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup dates , chopped OR ( raisins)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts OR ( cashew)

Instructions

  1. PRE HEAT OF OVEN AT 350 F and line 8 x 8 inch with parchment. Move oven rack in the mid level.
  2. In a large bowl, add in the melted butter, sugar and mix. Add the eggs, light syrup and vanilla. And mix until incorporated.
  3. Add in the flour, baking soda , baking powder  and salt. Mix together until incorporated. Add the  walnut and the dates and mix.
  4. Pour mixture into a lined baking pan and bake in a pre heated oven for 20 minutes.
  5. ENJOY!!!

Notes
