I really hope that I am not too late for this though, since Thanksgiving is already 2 weeks away; but I think this sweet potato recipe is not too late to be added into your Thanksgiving menu. In this sweet potato pie, I used evaporated milk as liquid base because it just yields a creamy filling. Instead of boiling the sweet potato, this recipe requires you to bake the sweet potatoes. You may take it’s a long process to do so, but the extra time will make the filling less watery, so I highly recommend that you do it.
Before making and actually buying the ingredients, I research the internet on what recipe to use, and I found a sweet potato pie recipe in All recipes. I read the reviews and tweaked the recipe just a bit using the reviews and this is to me, I think is the best sweet potato pie recipe. We love this.
Sweet Potato Pie Ingredients:
Evaporated Milk – this really make the filling dense
Baked Sweet Potatoes -instead of boiling the sweet potatoes, I prefer to bake it for an hour. It makes the filling less watery.
White granulated sugar – Sweet potatoes are inherently sweet, so I just used 1/3 cup of granulated sugar as I don’t want my sweet potato pie to be too sweet.

Yes, you can! I just have to learn to make my own pie crust, so I always sue the one you get from the store. This time, I used the ready made frozen pie crust which only cost $2.00 . Just thaw it before using. You can thaw it for 5 hours before using.
IS IT HARD TO MAKE SWEET POTATO PIE?
Not at all! Just follow the process below and you’re ascertain for success. Use the tooth pick test to check if your sweet potato is ready. When the toothpick comes out clean, it is ready. The filling will come out puffy but it will flatten out once it cools down. When the pie is cold, stick it in the fridge until it’s ready to slice. Top it with light whipped cream.
Easy Sweet Potato Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb sweet potato
- 1/2 cup butter melted
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoons cloves
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 piece 9 inch frozen pie crust thawed
Instructions
- Poke sweet potato with fork and wrap with foil.
- Bake in a preheated 350 F oven for an hour, or until it is soft. Check tenderness with fork. When the fork slides into the potato easily, it is ready.
- Peel the cooked baked potatoes put in a large bowl. Using a masher, mash potato until very fine.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until ingredients are well incorporated.
- Transfer mixture in a ready made thawed pie crust and bake for 50 minutes. Us the toothpick test.
