Where did Ube Cheese Pandesal originate
Ube pandesal originated in the Philippines, and its recipe foundation came from the basic Pandesal recipe. The only difference is that the Bread has cheese filling, and the Pandesal dough is flavored with Ube Extract and Ube Halaya.
Why You Should Make This?
- Cheap-it is way cheaper to make your own compared to buying.
- Easy Instructions– I made sure that the recipe instructions are detailed.
- Soft and Fluffy-these Pandesal Ube are soft and fluffy.
- Perfect- this is just perfect for snacking and quick filling breakfast. Make a huge batch to share with friends and family.
Why is Pandesal Ube trending?
This is not your typical Pandesal per see. Ube Pandesal is purple, and it has Ube Halaya; Ube flavoring is added to the bread dough. Pandesal Ube has been trending for a while now, and I think due to its color and not the “usual” type of Pandesal. People tend to patronize new sparkling objects. In this recipe, I used all-purpose flour, and some bakers used bread flour and other types of flour and still had a good result.
I am so excited to make this because not only does the color look so pretty, but it is so worth it to make this. The end product of this recipe is a delicious bread that stays soft and moist for days. Saying that I love this easy Pandesal recipe is an understatement. The instructions are detailed and the video helps you on the recipe bumps.
You can fill it with a cheese of your choice. You can use cream cheese, mozzarella cheese- any cheese really, and I prefer cheddar cheese.
What is Ube Pandesal Made off?
Ingredients for Ube Pandesal are common. Some of its ingredients could be available in your pantry. I got my Ube Flavoring from the Asian store and it’s is found in the spice section. Ube halaya, Ube jam, or dehydrated ube powder however needs to be bought online.

TIPS TO MAKE UBE PANDESAL?
As I mentioned before, I had made Pandesal several times and all the time got great results. And this one turns excellent as well. And as you can see in the pictures, it was a success. So you have to follow the process to a T 🙂
- First, make sure that you are using active dry yeast.
- Mix the yeast with warm water. What I do is I boil 2/3 cup of water, remove 1/3 of it, and then replace it with 1/3 of tap water and then mix the yeast, water, and sugar. Let it bubble.
- Make sure that you have nonexpired yeast. You can test your yeast by mixing it with water, and if it does not bubble within 5 minutes, it is expired.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place.
- Use a thicker cheese, or it will melt away during baking. I have cheese singles at home, so I stacked 4 of them and divided them into eight rectangles.
- Measure the flour correctly; adding too much flour can harden the dough
- Do not add more flour

I have been using this recipe before but now I couldn’t find the ube ingredient?
Shobelyn Dayrit says
I suggest not changing the ingredients, since this has been proven to work. I haven’t tried adding powdered milk, nor used bread flour, so I can’t vouch for it 🙁
Nancy says
Thank you for sharing the recipe really appreciate it.
Can I add powdered milk on the recipe to make the taste better and can I use bread flour instead of all purpose flour.
I made pandesal one time the fallowing day went turn into
Hard pandesal I read of soft.

When adding the cheese, make sure that you seal any openings where the cheese could ooze out.
Shobelyn Dayrit says
This way it will activate the gluten more resulting in a soft and less dense dough and bread.
Gie says
What’s the purpose of separating the flour/yeast mixture and let it sit for 45 minutes to double size before adding the rest of the flour and ingredients/flavoring?
Shobelyn Dayrit says
I have not tried it, but I think it will be ok.
melva says
can I use coconut milk or almond milk instead of regular milk?
Shobelyn Dayrit says
Hi, JC. You need to make sure that the dough is sealed completely and don’t make the cheese too large.
JC says
Great recipe. Everyone I’ve made it for loves it. However, I’m having a problem with the pandesal exploding and the cheese oozing out. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, Zarah. It is suppose to be soft and fluffy, not heavy. Next time, don’t overknead it. I am thankful for letting me know that you liked it. If you can, please rate the recipe.
Zarah says
Hi, I love your recipe. I have tried it several time. The pandesal softest last up to 3 days. We just heat it up in a toaster when we want it warm. Im just wondering if the bread is really heavy? The pandesal I made is soft but heavy its kinda denser. Is it over kneaded or under kneaded?
Shobelyn Dayrit says
Hi, Drew. I have not tried it with bread flour, but I think you can, without much changes with the bread. Thank you.

Can I just use ube extract? I don’t have powder or halaya.
Shobelyn Dayrit says
It’s naturally firm after several days, but you can soften it but heating it for a few seconds in the microwave before eating. 🙂
Ces says
Thanks for the recipe. Is there a way to make ube pandesal stay soft for several days? Thank you.
Shobelyn Dayrit says
Hi, Joanna. The total APF is 4 cups but DIVIDED. The proofed yeast mixture is added to the 1 cup APF.Then, let the mixture sit for 45 minutes , then move on to the rest of the instructions. Please watch the video too for clarification, and I revised the process so the it is less confusing.
Thank you.

What do you mean by plain flour?
Shobelyn Dayrit says
Hi, Sharon. I have not tried using instant yeast for this Ube Pandesal, but I did once with my previous Pandesal post here and it did not turn out well.So from then on, I use active yeast that’s not expired. The outcome was hard pandesal and had holes in them. You can try making this though using instant yeast, but add it in the dry ingredients. Still warm the water and other liquid. BUT, I can’t affirm the best result, because I have not tried instant yeast with this. Let me know how it turned out.
