Heard about pantry challenge? If not, let me explain. This is when you check your fridge and pantry for meal ingredients and plan your menu on what’s available. For this week, the picture is what I have in my pantry and fridge. If you look at the far left, you’ll see that I have Tahini and chick peas, so I made Hummus out of that. Hummus recipe will be next week. And hummus needs flat bread all the time, thus this flat bread recipe.
I tell you, this is VERY good.
I love this recipe because it’s really simple to make and I mean realllllllly easy.
I made this when I got home from work.
Pretty much you just mix your ingredients and this flat bread recipe call only of 6 ingredients that are probably in your pantry.
Flat bread can be very expensive. It costs $5.00 for a pack and we want to be cheap as much as we can to stay track on our budget.
Flat Bread Variations:
There are so many possibilities on how to serve this bread. If you like pizza, you can use this as a healthier version of regular pizza dough.
You can serve it as base for your chicken gyros.
You can use this a taco wrap for your favorite chicken recipe.
Dip this bread in your homemade Hummus.
Or you can use this instead of rice.
How do you make Flat Bread?
- In a large bowl, add in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder and sugar. Mix using a wire whisk.
- Place milk in a heat safe bowl and add the olive oil. Heat for 3 minutes. Make sure the mixture will not overflow by opening the microwave every minute.
- Remove mixture from the microwave oven. Use a pot holder since it’s very hot.
- Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and mix using your hand until a the mixture clump together.
- Transfer dough in a floured surface and knead until there are no lumps.
- Form into a ball and cover the dough with a cloth and let rest for 5 minutes.
- When ready, divide the dough into six and form into balls. Flatten the dough into 1/4 inch thick.
- Brush cast iron or frying pan with oil and fry the dough until each side is charred – about 4 minutes each side.
