What is Lumpia Dynamite
Another name for dynamite lumpia is “cheese dynamite” or simply “dynamite sticks.” Its addictive blend of spice, cheese, and crispiness has made it a crowd-pleaser at parties, food fairs, and family gatherings. This versatile snack appeals to adventurous eaters and those seeking a compelling flavor experience.
Dynamite Lumpia is a creative twist on the traditional Filipino lumpia, a spring roll typically filled with a mix of vegetables and sometimes meat. The Dynamite variant takes the classic recipe to the next level by adding a fiery surprise: spice, cheese, and jalapeno crunch.
Why you’ll love this recipe
- Spicy: You can make it spicy or spicier according to your heat tolerance. Each bite delivers an intense combination of flavors, as the heat from the peppers is balanced by the creamy, melted cheese and savory meat filling.
- Versatility and Adaptability: One reason Lumpia Dynamite has gained immense popularity is its versatility. Vegetarians can substitute the meat with tofu or textured vegetable protein, while cheese lovers can experiment with varieties like cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack. The endless possibilities allow everyone to create their personalized version of this delicious dish.
- Perfect Pairings and Dipping Sauces: To elevate the Lumpia Dynamite experience, pairing it with the proper dipping sauce is essential. Traditional Filipino condiments like spicy vinegar, banana ketchup, or a combination of soy sauce and calamansi juice enhance the flavors and provide a tangy contrast to the spiciness. Additionally, creamy dips like garlic mayo or sour cream can offer a soothing respite from the heat while complementing the richness of the cheese. Experimenting with different sauces allows you to discover unique flavor combinations and tailor the experience to your liking.
How do you make Dynamite Lumpia with cheese?
The core ingredient is often jalapeños, stuffed with a flavorful mixture of cream cheese, spices and green onions. This is a very versatile appetizer that you add your favorite ingredients. You can add cooked ground meat to the cheese filling if you like. These spicy cylinders are then rolled in spring roll wrappers and deep-fried to perfection, resulting in a crispy exterior with a molten, cheesy center.
Ingredients
- Cream cheese- cream cheese adds flavor and saltiness.
- Onion and Garlic Powder
- Ground white pepper
- Jalopeno- you can remove some of the seeds to control the spiciness. The seeds add spiciness.
- Lumpia wrapper—I use a Menlo wrapper. They are permanently frozen, so thaw them and gently separate them. You can get them in the Asian store’s frozen section.
Procedure
Making Lumpia dynamite is easy. The only downside is preparing the Jalapenos—removing the seed can be cumbersome. After that, the filling is easy to make, and the wrapping is simple if you follow the instructions.
- Prepare the cheese- place the cream cheese in a bowl and mix using an electric hand mixer. Add the onion and garlic powder. Season with the pepper.
- Prepare the Jalapeno-Wash the Jalapeno and slit it to the middle. Remove the seeds or keep them to keep the spiciness. Fill the jalapenos with filling and wrap it with the wrapper.
- Heat oil and fry until golden brown.
To wrap lumpia dynamite, follow these steps: (please watch the video)
- Take a lumpia wrapper and lay it flat on a clean surface.
- Place the filled Jalapeno (typically a green finger chili or jalapeño) on the wrapper.
- Roll the wrapper tightly around the chili and cheese, folding the sides inward as you roll to enclose the filling completely.
- Seal the edge of the wrapper with a bit of water or egg wash to secure the roll.

- Freezing: Freezing is a good option if you want to store the lumpia dynamite for a longer period. Here’s how to freeze it properly. Remember that while freezing helps preserve the lumpia dynamite, the texture may not be as crispy as when freshly cooked. Nonetheless, they should still be tasty and enjoyable.

- Once thawed, reheat them in an oven or air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes or until crispy.
How Do You Store Leftover Filling?
I always make a massive batch of this filling and store it in the freeze. First, I transfer the filling to a sealed container and freeze it for future use. When I have a cooked crab leftover, I add the leftover filling to make it into a crab rangoon.
What Kind of Lumpia Wrapper to Use?
You can use several wrappers to wrap your Cheesy Lumpia Dynamite. I use the Menlo brand, which you can find in the freezer section in the Asian store. You can also use the Simex Lumpia Wrapper brand.
