Cheese bread with cheddar filling, sweet fluffy and soft bread filled with cheese and topped with butter and sugar. This recipe is your ultimate comfort bread, perfect with coffee in the morning.
This bread is often sold in bakeshops around the Philippines. With sugar and butter topped on a very fluffy bread, this is undoubtedly considered a dessert that Filipinos love. This bread is also straightforward to make, and you can make an extra batch that you can store for the next day- that is, if there’s any leftover.
How to Make it
- Prepare the leavening agent: In a small bowl, add the 1 tablespoon active dry yeast, 2 tablespoons flour, and warm milk. Set aside.
- Mix the dry ingredients: Mix the 1 ½ cup flour, salt. And form a well in the middle. Add the egg and mix using a spatula. Add yeast mixture and transfer dough in the electric mixing bowl
- Attach hook attachment of the electric mixer and set speed to medium. Add the butter 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Mix until dough is smooth. About 5 minutes.
- Transfer dough in an oiled bowl and cover. Let the dough sit in a warm place for an hour.
- Transfer dough into lightly floured surface and foaming flatten dough and form a flat circle and divide into 8 to 12 pieces.
- Form dough into a ball and flatten using a rolling pin. Put the cheese on one edge and line the cheese.
- Roll to form a small log.
- Bake: Put dough in a baking pan and cover. Let sit for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven at 350 F and bake bread for 20 minutes.
- Brush bread with butter and sprinkle it with sugar.

How to Store
Fridge:
- When the bread is ready and fully baked in 20 minutes, let it sit at room temperature until cold.
- Place a in a sealed container and store in the fridge.
- Heat in the microwave for 10 seconds it’s ready to eat.
Freeze: You can freeze it too. Just place in a ziploc and freeze. When ready to consume, let it sit in the fridge or counter and heat in the microwave for 10 seconds.
