Korean cream cheese garlic bread. This Korean Street food is done in minutes by using ready-made bread rolls. It is filled with sweetened cream cheese and brushed with garlic butter mixture, this garlic bread is done in no time. I bake it in the Air Fryer to make it a bit “extra.” Of course, you can bake this in your conventional oven too, but with this heat, I don’t want to blast my oven.
Korean Cream Cheese Garlic Bread
Do you ever wonder what ingredients taste better together? Cheese and garlic. This is a fusion food combining Korean and Western cultural aspects. This Korean bread recipe with homemade filling and creamy garlic sauce shows you how to make this delicious Asian-style pastry that combines two of Korea’s most popular bread items – garlic bread and cream cheese filling.
This cream cheese garlic bread can be served as an appetizer or as a main course meal, and it is often eaten with various toppings such as egg yolk, green onions, sliced ham, or smoked salmon.
Korean Cream Cheese Garlic bread vs. Classic garlic bread
The regular garlic bread recipe is a well-known appetizer made initially from Italian bread toasted with butter or olive oil and rubbed with garlic butter or minced garlic. This bread I am going to share with you is filled with sweetened cream cheese, which makes the crunchy bread dough buttery, combining the sweetness from the filling with the garlic butter mixture. The whole bread becomes creamy with the sweet cream cheese flowing with one bite.
Moreover, this Korean cream cheese garlic bread is baked in an oven, or, made in an air fryer. Most restaurants serve garlic bread dishes on the grill, such as at Outback Steakhouse. The baked style is very different from the grilled version, giving this cheesy Asian garlic bread a nice crispy outer crust surrounding the fluffy cheese filling.
Some may argue that cream cheese does not belong on garlic bread, but once you try this Korean-style take on an old classic, you will be sure to agree that this fusion food is delicious.
I tried this garlic bread when I was in Incheon National Airport on my way back from the Philippines. It was sold expensively, so I made my own version at home. It is very doable with easy-to-come-by ingredients and ready-made hard bread rolls from Walmart.
What type of cheese should I use?
We will be using cream cheese in this recipe, but the type of cheese you use will depend on your taste. In Korea, there are various types, from sweet to creamy to mild or strong, and it is hard to tell which one should be used the most. However, the main thing is flavor and what you feel comfortable with first.
Most people use Kraft (Korean) cream cheese because it is readily available and does not require any preparation. However, you can use Philadelphia or another brand of your choice. You can also make your own at home if you prefer. You can add grated Parmesan or feta cheese for a more pungent taste.
What type of bread should I use?
Is it necessary to have Korean garlic bread or make your bread?
No. In this post, I used the ready-made bread rolls from Walmart. Any round rolls from your supermarket will work, too. You can use a French loaf, which is longer and thinner than the Italian version, but both have benefits. The French roll has a crisp exterior because it is baked in an oven, whereas the Italian roll has a softer crust.
Both are excellent options depending on what you prefer. Feel free to substitute this for any bread of your preference. Even homemade rolls or a baguette would work just as well.
Once you make this recipe a few times, you can start adding whipping cream or other spices or baking it into bread dough. Experiment with different cheeses to find the best taste for your palate.
Where can you get Korean Cream Cheese Garlic bread?
You can make your own. When I went to school in New York, there were some of the best Korean bakeries and they sell these Korean Cream Cheese Garlic bread. When I tried it, I know that I have to make my own. I am thinking of making Korean bread from scratch next time, so watch out for it.
