Ground Turkey Lumpiang Shanghai Recipe
Lumpia is one of those Filipino appetizer that always gets the rave in any party. I bought it to one on my friend’s gathering and it get the accolade it deserves. This Ground Turkey Lumpiang Shanghai Recipe is just one of the many variations of Lumpiang Shanghai that I have shared on the blog, that I highly recommend.
Why this recipe works?
- It is super easy to make – making this is so simple. Simply make the ingredients together and I recommend to let the ingredients merge overnight to meld the taste together.
- Simple Ingredients- the ingredients are easy to find.
- Great appetizer to make ahead- I often make a huge batch and freeze them for future consumption.
- Cheaper-this shanghai are expensive when you buy it in your grocery stores, so spare an hour of your weekend to make them.
Recipe Ingredients:
- Ground turkey– You can use ground chicken here, but since the ground turkey are on sale, I opted ground turkey this time.
- Egg– I used large egg as the binding agents.
- Onion and garlic Powder– they add flavor on this recipe. You can more if you want.
- Bell Pepper– use red pepper as they are more juicy and tastier than green or yellow.
- Soy Sauce & Oyster sauce– they add flavor. Use light soy sauce.
- Garlic-chop the garlic finely and there’s no limit add more garlic if you want.
- Cooking oil– you need two cups of cooking oil. I use canola oil to deep fry my Lumpia Shanghai.
- Menlo wrapper– this is one of my favorite wrapper.
Here’s how you make it:

Place all of the ingredients except oil and wrapper in a large bowl. Mix the ingredients together. Cover and let the mixture sit in the fridge overnight, for the seasoning to absorb the meat; or, you can just go ahead and wrap the Lumpia right away.
- Place the Turkey Lumpia mixture in a large piping bag and cut the edge of the bag to half inch opening. Place the wrapper on a flat surface and pipe the mixture . Cover one edge and fold both ends. Roll tightly and seal with the egg.
- Line the lumpia on a baking sheet and freeze. Remove frozen Lumpia from the pan and transfer to a Ziploc
How to Cook Ground Turkey Lumpia
- Heat the cooking oil in the deep skillet. Make sure that the heat is at 350 F. You can test the temperature by placing a wooden chopstick in the middle of the pan and if you can see bubbles around it, you are ready to fry.
- Submerge frozen Lumpia in the hot oil. Make sure that the pan is not overcrowded. Add four to five Lumpia at a time. Deep fry the Ground Turkey Lumpia until golden brown.
How to Cook Lumpia in the Instant Pot
- Place the frozen Lumpia in the dehydrating rack as shown in this post-Air Fryer Lumpia.
- Spray the Lumpia with nonstick oil and push the air fryer button setting.
- Set the temperature to 390 F and set the timer to twelve minutes.
Storage Instructions:
Lumpiang Shanghai stores well in the freezer for six months. After wrapping the Lumpia, line them in a baking pan and freeze. When they are frozen, remove them from the pan and transfer them to a Ziploc.
How do you serve it?
I always serve them with spicy chili sauce, or you can serve them with this Spice Vinegar.

Equipment
- 1 deep skillet

- 1 wooden chopsticks or oil thermometer
Ingredients
- 2 lb ground turkey
- 1/8 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp onion powder finely chopped
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 large bell pepper finely chopped
- 1 head garlic this is 3-4 tablesppoon of minced garlic

Spray the frozen Lumpia with nonstick oil and push the air fryer button setting. Set the temperature to 390 F and set the timer to eighteen minutes.
