This Banh Bao was steamed in my Instant Pot and made for an easy snack and dinner. The dough for these Bahn Bao was made from scratch, and it is simple to make. Step-by-step instructions and a video are provided for you to make this ASAP.
Banh Bao
After getting a lot of reactions to my Instant Pot Steamed Buns, I am making another post about buns being steamed; this time though it is with meatball filling. Although you can make the meatballs from scratch using this recipe, Siopao with meatballs, and this Barbecue Meatballs; – this time, I used the Vietnamese version-this is really good.
What Is Banh Bao
Banh Bao means dumplings in English, and this is what the Vietnamese call these steamed buns.
In the Philippines, we call this snacks Siopao Bola Bola. It’s derived from the word Bola which means ball, and Siopao, which means buns. These steam buns are a famous snack in the Philippines and are sold everywhere.
I made this a long time ago, but that time, I used a different version of the dough recipe. That dough recipe yields soft and fluffy steamed buns, but I think this Siopao dough version is easier and quicker.
Equipment
I want to emphasize each instant pot is different, and some settings may not be on the instant pot you got. In my case, I am using Instant Pot Duo Crisp 11-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker with Air Fryer Lid, 8 Quart. This Instant pot doesn’t have the rice setting, so I am using the pressure cooker setting.
