Making a small Batch
Baking is therapeutic for me, same as cooking savory foods; so when ever I get a chance, or whenever I am feeling down, I bake. I experiment and I test them until I get I get the result I want. Since I got my Instant Pot Duo, I have been testing my recipes in it, specially now that it’s too hot outside and I don’t want to turn my oven. Testing my usual recipes in the Instant Pot has been fun and fulfilling.
How do you Make It?
Step one: Mix the milk and water together and warm the water and milk in the microwave for 35 seconds.
Step two: Make the Meat Bread Dough- Place the hook attachment in your electric mixer. Place instant dry yeast, flour, and sugar in the electric mixing bowl. Add in the warm milk and turn the hook attachment and let it mix the dough five times. Add in the egg and the butter. Mix for eight minutes. You can tell that it’s ready when the dough is not sticking on the sides. You can also knead the dough manually. It often takes fourteen minutes to do so.
Step three: Form the dough into a ball and sprinkle the mixing bowl with olive oil or canola oil. Put the dough back and cover the bowl with plastic wrap and store the dough in a warm place. Let the dough sit for one hour.
After an hour, sprinkle flour on the working surface and transfer the dough and divide the dough into three. Form the dough ithe into burger-size dough, but a little taller and that will fit into the eight-quart size Instant Pot. Cover the shaped dough with a cloth and let sit for another 30 minutes.
Step four: Prepare the Instant Pot- Place the inner pot into the base and set the air fryer tray. Put the dehydrating/broil tray and arrange the shaped dough. Place a distance between them. No parchment paper is needed. Cover it with the air fryer lid and push the bake button. Set the temperature to 350 F and set the timer for 10 minutes.
How to Cook in a conventional oven
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Place bread on a baking sheet and bake the bread for twenty minutes.
What kind of yeast to use?
- There is a difference between instant yeast and active dry yeast. For instant yeast, you can add it in the dry ingredients, while in active dry yeast, you have to mix it with warm water to make it bloom, like making it wake up from its deep sleep.
Ingredients:
- Water
- Fresh Milk
- Egg
- Instant Dry Yeast
- All-purpose flour
- Instant Dry Yeast
- Granulated Sugar
- Unsalted butter
How to warm the Liquid?
- Microwave the milk for 25 seconds and see if it’s warm to the touch. If it is, it’s good enough, and add the active yeast. Mix to incorporate and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. By then, the yeast will form bubbles-usually it takes 5- 20 minutes for the yeast to bloom.
YEAST FRESHNESS TEST
- Dissolve one teaspoon of sugar in 1/2 cup of warm water and add the active dry yeast. You should see the yeast bloom in 5- 10 minutes.
HOW TO STORE YEAST
- Yeast contains enzymes that become active with time. Once exposed to moisture, air, and heat; therefore, you must store it appropriately. An unopened bottle can be stored in the cupboard but kept in the fridge once the bottle is opened.
- You can freeze the yeast six months after opening for the long term.
- Dry yeast should sit at room temperature 40 minutes before use.
